Some claim that the ghost takes on different forms, depending on the gender of the witness, appearing as either a handsome man or a beautiful woman. The ghost is said to ask for a kiss, and if given, the person is doomed to die within a month.
Historical records suggest that a man named William Parker met a tragic end after encountering the ghost on Christmas Eve, 1875. He met a red-headed girl at the church who disappeared shortly after they engaged with each other. William died exactly one month later. The legend of the Shadowy Figure has been passed down through the years, with many claiming to have seen or heard the ghostly apparition around the church ruins on Christmas Day. The moaning sound is also reported to be heard around the same time of year, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the location.
The church dates back to the medieval period, but the current ruins are from the 19th century.
