Camelot Castle Hotel stands as a remarkable example of Victorian Gothic architecture, designed by renowned Cornish architect Silvanus Trevail and built between 1894-1899. Originally commissioned as a luxury hotel to capitalise on the growing interest in Arthurian legends and Cornwall's romantic coastline, the castle quickly became a magnet for Victorian society's elite. The building's strategic position atop dramatic cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean made it a destination for stars and luminaries of the era who sought both comfort and connection to the mythical past. The Mappin family acquired the property in 1999, beginning an extensive restoration project in 2006 that preserved the building's historic character while updating it for modern luxury hospitality. Today, the hotel continues its tradition of offering what has been described as a 'Downton Abbey Experience for Everyman', maintaining its reputation as one of Cornwall's most distinctive heritage hotels.
