Professional paranormal investigations in 2007 documented multiple phenomena including team members sensing 'the presence of a lady but she was shy,' mirror scrying experiences showing a 'haggard, dark-eyed woman,' and glass divination sessions suggesting contact with former staff members.

Her charred remains were discovered at the foot of the servants' staircase. Known as 'The Blue Lady', Eliza's ghost is said to continue her eternal search for the jewelry lost in the fire. Her apparition has been witnessed throughout the hotel, but particularly in areas corresponding to the original servants' quarters where she met her tragic end, especially under the central gable where the servants' staircase was originally located.

Overcome with grief and a broken heart, the woman is said to have died shortly after. Her weeping is believed to be a 'residual' haunting, replaying on the anniversary of her forced departure as she packed her belongings. In addition to this prominent story, there have been other, less frequent, reports of paranormal activity within the historic building. The apparition of a tall man wearing a black hat has allegedly been seen by guests and staff. This spectral figure is most often spotted in one of the lounge bars, sitting quietly near the large, open log fireplace. While the crying woman's story is tied to a specific room and a heart-wrenching narrative, the presence of the hatted man adds another layer to the inn's mysterious and haunted atmosphere, suggesting that more than one spirit may linger within its ancient walls.
